For the past eight years, Progressives have intensely encouraged the infiltration of politics into every facet of life. After being removed from power, in large part, for that very reason, the bemoaning of Trumpian politics existing in the public and private square is exhausting. After all, this is an ideological movement that suggested one should disown the friends and family who were Republicans or conservatives. The insistence on pushing liberal narratives during Thanksgiving dinner was a trademark of the Obama administration.
But one speech to the Boy Scouts by President Trump and they've had enough. Suddenly the Left tells us to worry about the kids hearing Trump. Why are we afraid politics is too much for the Scouts, when the amount of Progressive, politically-woke eight-year-olds is on the rise? It's not really about the Boy Scouts. It's just the wrong kind of politics. Liberals can't stand having a corner out of their control. They've continually waged war on the Boy Scouts for decades. They've taken them to court and called for private donors to defund them over their membership requirements. For three decades the left has been suing and harassing the Boy Scouts in the name of atheism, alleged sexism, and over sexuality, so spare me the outrage over politics. Trump turned the Jamboree into a partial political rally. It's what he does. It's unsurprising and boring now. It's what Obama did with everything. It's what politicians do. It's not that I like it, but the Left asked for politics in everything. Congrats, here you go. It doesn't have to all be a bad thing, either. Strangely, politics is very much a part of Boy Scouts. I received my citizenship merit badge there more than twenty years ago. Some policy comments aren't going to hurt anyone. They might actually prompt a discussion. Oh but the indoctrination! Good God the indoctrination market, if only it couldn't be purely one-sided and the Left had it all. And the response of the left, just lovely. Calling a bunch of innocent kids in attendance “Nazi youth” is obviously the way to go.
Even if I could make legit criticisms I won't, because I'm not lending a dime to this garbage.
Anyway, I read the speech. (You can too!) There's nothing in there indicative of Nazism. Nothing was particularly shocking. For all the press I expected something outrageous. Yes, Trump praised himself and took some digs at politics, but he also praised the Scouts and what they do. After decades of the Left suing them and threatening their donors, they could use it. I'm a frequent Trump speech critic. I don't like how he talks about most things, but I pick and choose my criticisms. I'll pass on this one. But let me end with one quote from Trump's speech: “Let your scouting oath guide your path from this day forward. Remember your duty, honor your history, take care of the people God put into your life, and love and cherish your great country.” Terrifying.
