Greetings from the Misfits, and welcome to our second Weekly Rewind of 2017! Every week we round up our favorite tweets and all of our blog posts from the previous week and put them in one place. We never take ourselves too seriously, and like to have fun, so if that sounds good to you, pull up a chair and join us! First, a bit of history about the Misfits is in order – our tagline is pretty spot on: “Just a gaggle of people from all over who have similar interests and loud opinions mixed with a dose of humor. We met on Twitter. Enough said.” Most of us met on Twitter in 2015 and we quickly realized that we had a lot in common – we leaned the same way politically, yes, but we also could not be easily categorized. Our interests were all over the map, we came from all over the country (Yankees and Southerners united!), but more than anything, we loved to laugh. J.R. was smart enough to recognize how well we’d all get along, and voilà – the Misfit DM was created. In her words: “I've always described myself as a sort of misfit, belonging to various groups, liking a lot of random different things, and I think it just seemed natural to call a group of unrelated people from all over that, too.” If you want to know more about all of us, stop by our Meet the Misfits page. Also, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this post for our latest blog posts! Don’t forget to follow us at @MisfitsPolitics – and pssst, here’s a secret: you never know which one of us is tweeting from the account. (Most of the time, we don’t know either, though we sure have fun trying to guess!) Finally, it should be noted there was another political interest group/account called Misfits well before us, but we were not aware and have no association with them. Now that we know, we hope they will enjoy our work. So, to begin the Rewind, a few brief tweets to explain:
Last week started out with a bang, when deranged liberal and MTV “culture writer” Ira Madison III decided to use the use the confirmation of Jeff Sessions for Attorney General as his platform to spew his racism. His tweet:
BuzzFeed, being BuzzFeed, published unverified documents accusing Donald Trump of doing some, uhhh, disgusting antics while in Russia.
The Golden Globes happened last week, and we were all so surprised and delighted when a celebrity lectured us all (this time, Meryl Streep). Twitter rightly had fun with it, but then the usual scolds emerged, telling everyone it was stupid to care about it. That's always fun, too.
President Obama delivered his Farewell Address to weeping, adoring crowds, kind of like a Presidential pep rally, so unlike Obama, amirite? We might have had some choice words.
Civil rights icon and Georgia Rep. John Lewis said he doesn't see President-elect Donald Trump as a "legitimate" president, and is boycotting the inauguration, which is stupid. Trump, being Trump, fired back something stupid, saying Lewis was “all talk, no action.” Stupidity everywhere.
Joss Whedon once again proved what a massive, stinking turd he is with this despicable tweet:
Kayla summed up all of our feelings perfectly:
Meanwhile, Dinesh D’Souza made a complete ass out of himself, besmirching the memory of Rosa Parks.
Um, dude. No, just NO.
Former Maryland Gov and Democratic presidential candidate Martin O'Malley tweeted a hysterically bizarre quasi-threat.
This is a bit...disturbing. Here's what we had to say:
Lots of our tweets aren’t easy to categorize, so let’s just call these Miscellaneous Misfit Musings!
Finally, be sure to check out our blog posts from the last week, we had a lot of great stuff, including pieces from some of our regular contributors:
