#MisfitMemo - Weekly Rewind - Jan. 15, 2017

Rebecca de Winter

Greetings from the Misfits, and welcome to our second Weekly Rewind of 2017! Every week we round up our favorite tweets and all of our blog posts from the previous week and put them in one place. We never take ourselves too seriously, and like to have fun, so if that sounds good to you, pull up a chair and join us!

First, a bit of history about the Misfits is in order – our tagline is pretty spot on:

“Just a gaggle of people from all over who have similar interests and loud opinions mixed with a dose of humor. We met on Twitter. Enough said.”

Most of us met on Twitter in 2015 and we quickly realized that we had a lot in common – we leaned the same way politically, yes, but we also could not be easily categorized. Our interests were all over the map, we came from all over the country (Yankees and Southerners united!), but more than anything, we loved to laugh. J.R. was smart enough to recognize how well we’d all get along, and voilà – the Misfit DM was created. In her words:

“I've always described myself as a sort of misfit, belonging to various groups, liking a lot of random different things, and I think it just seemed natural to call a group of unrelated people from all over that, too.”

If you want to know more about all of us, stop by our Meet the Misfits page. Also, be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this post for our latest blog posts!

Don’t forget to follow us at
@MisfitsPolitics – and pssst, here’s a secret: you never know which one of us is tweeting from the account. (Most of the time, we don’t know either, though we sure have fun trying to guess!)

Finally, it should be noted there was another political interest group/account called Misfits well before us, but we were not aware and have no association with them. Now that we know, we hope they will enjoy our work. So, to begin the Rewind, a few brief tweets to explain:

Brandon is correct. We don't attempt to claim we are. We started as a group DM seemed "Misfits" last year. Evolved into something more. https://t.co/UxwUwy2ac1

— MisfitPolitics (@MisfitsPolitics) January 11, 2017

Most of us have only been here since 2015. We were already comfortable with the nickname & known as such when we discovered the former.

— MisfitPolitics (@MisfitsPolitics) January 11, 2017

We checked it out, discovered the account hadn't tweeted since '14 & the site dead. So we moved forward with our blog.

— MisfitPolitics (@MisfitsPolitics) January 11, 2017

There are several sites & such using "Misfit" w/ politics. We weren't branding then, so didn't care. We were & continue to do this for fun.

— MisfitPolitics (@MisfitsPolitics) January 11, 2017
Last week started out with a bang, when deranged liberal and MTV “culture writer” Ira Madison III decided to use the use the confirmation of Jeff Sessions for Attorney General as his platform to spew his racism. His tweet:
Picture

You have a liberal cultural influence publicly stating mixed race families aren't genuine.

— Dan ? (@danieltobin) January 10, 2017

Presidents' underage kids are off limits, but those grandkids are total a-holes. https://t.co/eI1dqdEumb

— Mo Mo (@molratty) January 10, 2017

On today's edition of "Who Said It: KKK supremacist or progressive democratic advocate?" https://t.co/z1hdtx9MRd

— Kayla (@VixenRogue) January 10, 2017

Ira, is my daughter less to you because her father is white? https://t.co/Vf5j9BLkAe

— Dan □ (@danieltobin) January 10, 2017

I have a half Asian daughter, should I would be worried the left is gonna call her a prop? https://t.co/Vf5j9BLkAe

— Dan ? (@danieltobin) January 10, 2017

That time a liberal said races shouldn't mix. https://t.co/Vf5j9BLkAe

— Dan □ (@danieltobin) January 10, 2017

Madison, sir, kindly return this racist rhetoric to the decade you stole it from. https://t.co/2lVFz0ZofL

— Andrew Lynch ? (@GentlemanRascal) January 10, 2017

Trying to say Sessions is a racist bc he has an Asian granddaughter is peak liberal idiocy. https://t.co/pf0HdGPOEM

— MisfitPolitics (@MisfitsPolitics) January 10, 2017
BuzzFeed, being BuzzFeed, published unverified documents accusing Donald Trump of doing some, uhhh, disgusting antics while in Russia.

Uhhhhh #GoldenShowers pic.twitter.com/wSd5IN5X6t

— MisfitPolitics (@MisfitsPolitics) January 11, 2017

Yeah that thing we said isn't true.
Why don't you trust us????

— Dan ? (@danieltobin) January 11, 2017
The Golden Globes happened last week, and we were all so surprised and delighted when a celebrity lectured us all (this time, Meryl Streep). Twitter rightly had fun with it, but then the usual scolds emerged, telling everyone it was stupid to care about it. That's always fun, too.

I don't care about you not caring about what Hollywood is caring about.

— J.R. Holmsted ? (@JHolmsted) January 9, 2017

Hey #MerylStreep...#nationalchampionship #football pic.twitter.com/58WmvkIpgb

— MisfitPolitics (@MisfitsPolitics) January 10, 2017

Nothing says Show of Defiance like a house band telling you to wrap it up.#GoldenGlobes

— Marc Logic ? (@marcannem96) January 9, 2017
President Obama delivered his Farewell Address to weeping, adoring crowds, kind of like a Presidential pep rally, so unlike Obama, amirite? We might have had some choice words.

He's lying and people are crying over him leaving. He's lied to you for eight years. https://t.co/CDRrSA60Xv

— MisfitPolitics (@MisfitsPolitics) January 11, 2017

Yet, everyone who opposed your policies was a racist. How does that work? https://t.co/8b8AgTEnUo

— Mo Mo (@molratty) January 11, 2017

Twitter reacts to negative #ObamaFarewell tweets

WHO IS NOT WEARING THE OBAMA RIBBON?!!??! pic.twitter.com/SXPUZBnRe5

— Marc Logic ? (@marcannem96) January 11, 2017

"*sigh* That's alright. We're Americans. Maybe we can fix some of this shit show you created. Blow me." - Rex https://t.co/Mfm4IkWO3U

— Rebecca de Winter □ (@BlazerMc88) January 11, 2017

The press destroyed their entire credibility for Obama and all they got was a lousy speech. pic.twitter.com/eCCbX3E3JU

— Dan □ (@danieltobin) January 11, 2017
Civil rights icon and Georgia Rep. John Lewis said he doesn't see President-elect Donald Trump as a "legitimate" president, and is boycotting the inauguration, which is stupid. Trump, being Trump, fired back something stupid, saying Lewis was “all talk, no action.” Stupidity everywhere.

Lewis says something irresponsible. Trump gives dumb response. Now, you're either with Putin or with civil rights. Ok. https://t.co/DVjPWJHVks

— Mo Mo (@molratty) January 14, 2017

Lewis shouldn't get a pass b/c of his past. Trump shouldn't get a pass at all either. They're both responsible for their words. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

— J.R. Holmsted ? (@JHolmsted) January 14, 2017
Joss Whedon once again proved what a massive, stinking turd he is with this despicable tweet:
Picture
Kayla summed up all of our feelings perfectly:

These people seem happy and well adjusted and I'm definitely interested in adopting their worldview. https://t.co/w9HVZwRpPF

— Kayla (@VixenRogue) January 14, 2017
Meanwhile, Dinesh D’Souza made a complete ass out of himself, besmirching the memory of Rosa Parks.

My point about Rosa Parks is that, as with so many other Democrats, her reputation is absurdly inflated compared to what she actually did

— Dinesh D'Souza (@DineshDSouza) January 14, 2017
Um, dude. No, just NO.

Rosa Parks could have been killed for what she did. It actually was an act of bravery back then @DineshDSouza

— Gringo Suave ? (@2009superglide) January 15, 2017

Little known fact: Rosa Parks never publicly declared membership in any party https://t.co/MFBNKQvOCd

— Alex F. Baldwin? (@VerumVulnero1) January 15, 2017

You would think Dinesh would lose fans with those trash tweets. He won't. And Fox will have him on.

— Dan □ (@danieltobin) January 15, 2017

This is like the guy who doesn't normally cuss....now cussing for the 1st time. Taking it way too far. https://t.co/vO8PKQgqpk

— Marc Logic □ (@marcannem96) January 14, 2017
Former Maryland Gov and Democratic presidential candidate Martin O'Malley tweeted a hysterically bizarre quasi-threat.

Now is not the time for reconciliation. Dietrich Bonhoeffer didn't reconcile with the Nazis. MLK didn't reconcile with the KKK. Now we fight pic.twitter.com/BoQNl0on1N

— Martin O'Malley (@MartinOMalley) January 15, 2017
This is a bit...disturbing. Here's what we had to say:

Ted Cruz and Rand Paul are extremists though. https://t.co/3aScm6fTVB

— CDP ? (@cdpayne79) January 15, 2017

I never dreamed the meltdown would get this good. #popcorn https://t.co/u57TQty8Oz

— Rebecca de Winter □ (@BlazerMc88) January 15, 2017

The Dems lost everything and are now calling everyone on the right nazis and kkk members. https://t.co/VO41nXjOdH

— Dan ? (@danieltobin) January 15, 2017
Lots of our tweets aren’t easy to categorize, so let’s just call these Miscellaneous Misfit Musings!

Our @MisfitsPolitics may be tiny, but we don't spend our days policing emotional reactions either. We love our followers.

— Dan ? (@danieltobin) January 9, 2017

We are constantly scolded by the left. It backfired bigly in 2016. Maybe it's prudent to avoid that same approach to the right by the right?

— J.R. Holmsted ? (@JHolmsted) January 9, 2017

I've unfollowed and been unfollowed by lots of people. Somehow, we all managed to do so without a grand pronouncing of intent.

— Alex F. Baldwin? (@VerumVulnero1) January 14, 2017

This Obama pledge video is still my favorite stupid celebrity thing everhttps://t.co/34seMpFhXW

— Rebecca de Winter ? (@BlazerMc88) January 14, 2017

Sounds great!
Send me your social security number !!

— Andrew Lynch ? (@GentlemanRascal) January 15, 2017

Angelina Jolie has like 600 kids. She still works. She's your demographic. Stay in your lane, rich and famous person. https://t.co/d6ipTT0pdT

If they're planning to destroy property they're not protestors, if they're planning they're not rioters... what does that make them? https://t.co/2cRm2Dlnw0

— M. Raymer ? (@miscRaymer) January 14, 2017

Some men disagreed with me on the internet, one even disparaged my character. I didn't cry or try to get them fired. Take note, feminists.

— Kayla (@VixenRogue) January 12, 2017

Epic game. Well done, #Clemson. Congratulations. We'll get you next year. #nationalchampionship #RollTide

— LunaticRex? (@LunaticRex) January 10, 2017

@cdpayne79 And then Nixon resigned which ended up making Chevy Chase famous and giving us Carter. You've discovered Patient Zero: The DH.

— LunaticRex? (@LunaticRex) January 12, 2017

We have diff definitions of war, but I can play, too! Dems keep their boot on neck of minority communities, underfoot where they need them. https://t.co/4SV1cAwufO

Our biggest problem is our inability to tell the difference between serious people and famous people.

— Mo Mo (@molratty) January 13, 2017

Climate change gives people AIDS? Denies vaccinations? Puts waste in water sources? Creates oppressive, murderous regimes? #themoreyouknow https://t.co/aLxiX4joy7
